How do I measure my horse for a girth?
For a long girth (jumping/GP), measure from the bottom of the saddle flap on one side, under the belly, to the bottom of the flap on the other side. For a dressage girth, measure between the buckles of the short billets when the saddle is positioned correctly. Our team can help you determine the right size.
What's the difference between a dressage and jumping girth?
Dressage girths are short and wide, designed for saddles with short billets that keep buckles minimised under the rider's leg. Jumping and GP girths are long and narrower, designed for saddles with long billets. Using the wrong type can cause discomfort and affect saddle fit.
Do I need an anatomical girth?
Anatomical girths are shaped to avoid the horse's elbow area and distribute pressure more evenly. They're beneficial for horses that are girthy, sensitive behind the elbow, or have forward girthing points. Many riders find anatomical girths improve their horse's comfort and way of going.
Should my girth have elastic?
Elastic at one or both ends of the girth allows for slight give, which can improve comfort and accommodate breathing and movement. Most modern girths feature elastic ends. However, the girth should still be secure — elastic should be firm, not overly stretchy.
How do I care for my leather girth?
Clean leather girths regularly with a damp cloth and leather cleaner to remove sweat and dirt, then condition with a quality balm. Pay attention to the area under the belly where sweat accumulates. Allow to dry naturally away from direct heat.
