Brushing boots protect the inside of the leg from brush strikes — when one hoof clips the opposite leg during movement. It happens most in fast work, on turns, and with horses that have a narrow gait or winging action. The strike zone is the cannon bone and fetlock, so brushing boots cover that area with a shaped guard that absorbs impact.
