French Safety Innovation: Stirrups, Helmets, Airbags and Boots

Freejump was founded by Yann Dubourg in Bordeaux, France, in 2001. The brand revolutionised equestrian safety with the single-branch safety stirrup — a design that releases the foot during a fall while providing superior grip and shock absorption. The Soft'Up Pro, Soft'Up Lite, and the new 2026 Soft'Up Pro represent the latest evolution of this design, trusted by international show jumping professionals worldwide.

Beyond stirrups, Freejump has expanded into helmets with the Voronoï range. The Voronoï Carbon features a carbon-fibre shell with polycarbonate in-moulding and removable temporal protection, weighing approximately 500g without the lower temporal protection. The airbag vest range provides rider impact protection for eventing and show jumping, while riding boots and chaps bring Italian craftsmanship to the Freejump line. For Australian riders who prioritise safety engineering, Freejump offers uncompromising quality.

Single-Branch Safety Stirrups

Freejump pioneered the single-branch safety stirrup — the design that changed equestrian safety.

Soft’Up Pro (2026)

The new Soft’Up Pro (2026) represents the latest evolution of Freejump’s flagship stirrup. The single-branch design releases the foot during a fall, while the wide tread platform provides superior grip. The spring-steel branch absorbs shock and reduces strain on the rider’s ankle, knee, and hip. Trusted by international show jumping professionals.

Soft’Up Lite

The Soft’Up Lite offers the same single-branch safety design in a lighter, more accessible package. Ideal for riders who want Freejump safety engineering at a lower price point. The Lite maintains the wide tread and shock-absorbing branch while reducing weight for everyday schooling.

Stirrup Leathers and Accessories

Freejump also produces stirrup leathers, grip pads, and top banner stickers to complement their stirrups. The 4x6 stirrup leathers are designed to pair with Freejump stirrups for a complete setup. Grip pads provide additional traction for riders who need extra security in the saddle.

Voronoï Helmets and Airbag Vests

Freejump extends safety innovation to head protection and rider impact protection.

Voronoï Helmet Range

The Voronoï helmet range features the Voronoï Carbon with carbon-fibre shell and polycarbonate in-moulding. The helmet includes removable temporal protection, washable lining, and weighs approximately 500g without lower temporal protection. The Voronoï ABS offers a more accessible option with the same safety engineering. Manufacturer-listed standards include CE EN1384:2023 and SEI-ASTM F1163:2023 — check exact labels and current EA rules for your competition level.

Airbag Vests and Accessories

Freejump airbag vests provide rider impact protection for eventing, show jumping, and cross-country. The vest deploys on rider separation from the saddle, inflating around the torso to absorb impact. Available in adult and child sizes, with airbag cleaner, cartridges, and the leash system available separately. The X’Air Safe Technic Shirt is designed to work with the airbag system.

Freejump Intercom Audio Kit

The Freejump Intercom Audio Kit powered by Cardo allows coaches and riders to communicate during training. The system integrates with Freejump helmets and provides clear audio even at competition speeds — a practical solution for serious riders who value real-time coaching feedback.

Riding Boots, Chaps and Rider Accessories

Freejump brings Italian craftsmanship and technical innovation to rider footwear and accessories.

Liberty and America Chaps

Freejump Liberty chaps feature stretch panels and technical materials that move with the rider. The America chaps offer a classic leather look with modern comfort. Liberty XC Canvas Minichaps are designed for cross-country — lightweight and breathable for Australian eventers. See our chaps collection for the full range.

Riding Boots

Freejump riding boots combine Italian craftsmanship with technical materials. The Liberty One Plus boots are available as custom orders, while the Foxy/Pininfarina tall boots offer a premium off-the-shelf option. Boots provide the ankle support and leg contact that competition demands.

Spurs, Caps and Accessories

Freejump produces SPUR’ONE spurs with disk and extra-long options, spur straps, and the Freejump collar for rider training. The range also includes caps, backpacks, technical socks, and the Freejump horse bonnet — a complete ecosystem of competition accessories designed with the same engineering philosophy.

Sizing and Fit Guide

Freejump stirrups come in one size with adjustable tread angle. The eye width is designed to fit standard stirrup leathers. Voronoï helmets come in shell sizes S, M, and L with liner sizes from 52cm to 62cm — measure your head circumference to determine the correct liner size. Airbag vests are sized by chest measurement — check the size chart on each product page. Riding boots and chaps are sized by calf circumference and height.

For Australian riders, Freejump sizing follows European standards. Voronoï helmet liners can be swapped between shell sizes if your head measurement changes. Always try helmets with your hair styled as it would be for competition, as this affects fit. For stirrups, ensure your riding boots fit through the tread opening — Freejump treads are wider than traditional stirrups to accommodate most boot sizes.

Care and Maintenance

Freejump stirrups need minimal maintenance — wipe the tread clean after each use and check the spring-steel branch for signs of wear. The single-branch design is engineered for long-term durability, but inspect regularly for any cracks or deformation. Voronoï helmets should be wiped with a damp cloth and the washable lining removed and cleaned regularly. Never use solvents or abrasives on the helmet shell. Replace any helmet after a significant impact.

Airbag vests require specific care — do not wash the airbag unit. Clean the outer shell separately according to care instructions. Check the cartridge before each use and replace after any deployment. Store in a dry, ventilated area. Riding boots and chaps should be wiped with a damp cloth and conditioned regularly for leather styles. Technical fabric chaps can be spot-cleaned with mild soap and air dried.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Freejump known for?

Freejump is known for pioneering the single-branch safety stirrup. Founded by Yann Dubourg in Bordeaux, France, in 2001, the brand also produces the Voronoï helmet range, airbag vests, riding boots, and chaps.

What makes Freejump stirrups safe?

Freejump’s single-branch design releases the foot during a fall — the outer branch opens or flexes to free the foot, preventing dragging. The wide tread provides grip, and the spring-steel branch absorbs shock, reducing strain on the rider’s joints.

What safety standards do Voronoï helmets meet?

The manufacturer lists CE EN1384:2023 and SEI-ASTM F1163:2023. Always check the exact labels on your specific helmet and verify current EA rules for your competition level. Never assume universal compliance — standards and requirements change.

Are Freejump stirrups worth the price?

For competition riders, Freejump stirrups are a safety investment. The single-branch release system, shock-absorbing branch, and wide tread platform provide measurable benefits in comfort and safety. Trusted by international show jumping professionals, they’re engineered to last years of competition use.

How do I size a Voronoï helmet?

Voronoï helmets come in shell sizes S, M, and L with liner sizes from 52cm to 62cm. Measure your head circumference at the widest point above the ears. Liners can be swapped between shell sizes. Always try with your hair styled as for competition, as this affects fit.

How does the Freejump airbag vest work?

The airbag vest attaches to the saddle via a leash. When the rider separates from the saddle during a fall, the leash pulls a firing pin that deploys the airbag, inflating around the torso to absorb impact. The cartridge must be replaced after each deployment.

Where are Freejump products made?

Freejump states that their stirrups and helmets are manufactured in Bordeaux, France. The brand was founded by Yann Dubourg in Bordeaux in 2001 and continues to engineer products there. Riding boots combine Italian leather craftsmanship with Freejump’s technical innovation.
