Swales full cheek curb bit forward tilted port
A forward-tilted port changes the Swales conversation entirely: it discourages the horse from curling down and behind, per Jump'In - it minimises the tendency to stoop - while the ergonomic curve gives the tongue a natural home. For the horse that hides under a conventional curb, that's the whole ball game.
How it works: the Swales mechanism works on curb chain and mandibles alone, with no engagement of the head-and-neck posture through the cheekpieces. The tilted-forward port faces the rebalancing cue slightly ahead so the down-and-under evasion has nowhere to live, while the generous cannon curve keeps the mouthpiece comfortable enough that the tongue stays in place willingly. Full cheek arms keep direction accountable. Rig direct, with loops, or on four reins.
Why we rate it: thoughtful for the over-bent horse that responds to other curbs by crawling, and unusually comfortable for a strong-format bit. A jumper's specialist tool rather than a default; if your trainer has flagged curling as the evasion, this squarely addresses it. German silver (65% copper, 23% zinc, 12% nickel).
