Three bits hide inside Jump'In's Beval: move the rein position and the action changes - lateral control from one ring, a light lever from the next, a mild gag from the last. It's the multi-tool of the cheek world, for riders who like options over commitments.

How it works: the beval's stacked rings let the same bit ride in three different modes, with action intensifying by rein placement as Jump'In specifies. Start with the plain snaffle ring mode for ordinary work, drop the rein a level when the day needs leverage, drop again for the gag effect. Everything can also be rigged softly, so the full range runs from genuinely light to firm.

Why we rate it: brilliant for young horse campaigns, where the action you need on Tuesday differs from Saturday, and for riders who school at home one way and compete another. One bit, three contracts. The etiquette is the usual gag etiquette: two reins or loops give you the tiers. German silver (65% copper, 23% zinc, 12% nickel). Rinse between the rings after riding; compare the rest of our leverage bits.

— Sizes: 125 mm (5 in) or 135 mm (5.25 in).
