Small cheek Weymouth bit with high port
The word 'classic' gets overused in bitting, but the Lhotte Weymouth with high port earns it - Jump'In calls this fixed, small-cheeked design the most traditional of its Weymouth family, and it's the shape most dressage riders picture when they hear the word at all.
How it works: used only as the curb half of a double bridle, paired with a bradoon snaffle above it, the Weymouth delivers its action through the curb chain and the ported cannon, which arches to leave room for the bradoon and the tongue simultaneously. The high port adds clearance and comfort; the small cheeks keep the lever measures moderate. Strength scales primarily with cheek size, per Jump'In, so this fixed small-cheek version sits politely in the family range.
Why we rate it: for EA dressage riders stepping up to a double bridle, this is a safe, well-machined place to start - fixed cheeks read consistently, and the tongue-and-bradoon accommodation is exactly what a green double-bridle horse needs. Leathers and curb chain fitting matter more than the bit itself; take an afternoon over it. German silver (65% copper, 23% zinc, 12% nickel). Rinse after every ride. See our bridle accessories.
