Control without a curb or a lever - that's the specific brief of the Jump'In Twisted Cannon Bit with Flat. The twist adds definition, the centre flat gives the aid a landing place, and everything is delivered through a direct loose ring action with nothing mechanical amplifying your hand.

How it works: twisted cannons bring ridges that read clearly against the tongue, and the central flat concentrates each half-halt onto a defined surface, so the couple-seeking-control rider gets a louder reply from the same rein aid. The marked edges and slim cannon profile raise the action further, per Jump'In. The large flat rings handle direction crisply with their light lever touch.

Why we rate it: the smart choice for the horse-and-rider pair that needs more order without crossing into curb territory - many jumping riders school in formats exactly like this before deciding whether Pelham-level answers are ever needed. Honest note: stronger than the plain twist above, so bring a corresponding upgrade in hand softness. German silver (65% copper, 23% zinc, 12% nickel); rinse the twist properly. More snaffle bits here.

— Sizes: 125 mm (5 in) or 135 mm (5.25 in).
