When the progressive German 3-ring still gets ignored, Jump'In's Twisted German 3 Ring with Flat turns up the in-mouth definition: thin twisted cannons and a central flat give the rider licence to be firmer in the communication.

How it works: the softened German gag action stays - progressive, anti-pinch - but the mouthpiece now carries ridges through the twist and a flat centre that concentrates every aid, giving the rider more to work with short of escalating the cheek geometry at all. Used with two pairs of reins, it's a genuinely tiered signal: plain snaffle rein first, defined gag rein when required.

Why we rate it: an ordered escalation path rather than a leap - for the horse that has learned to sit on a plain 3-ring, the twist-plus-flat usually restores the contract without needing to move beyond a German cheek at all. Worth schooling first on the flat rather than introducing it at full gallop down to a combination, as ever. German silver (65% copper, 23% zinc, 12% nickel). Scrub the twist after riding.
