French mouth combined Gag bit
The clever thing about Jump'In's French Mouth Combined Gag is where it sends the pressure: the design divides its action between the neck, the bit and the curb chain, lightening the load in any one place - a more distribute-the-work approach than most gag designs bother with.
How it works: as with all gag bits, it prompts the horse to rebalance and shift weight onto its hindquarters, but the curb chain involvement here takes a significant share of the load off the neck. Fixed passes stop the bit tipping over and anchor the cheekpieces neatly. Ride it with a single rein pair fixed straight on the gag cheekpieces, with bit loops, or with two pairs for a snaffle-and-gag dialogue.
Why we rate it: gags get a reputation for bluntness; this one is engineered more thoughtfully, and for the showjumping horse that needs reminding to lift off the forehand without a poll-heavy hang, the split-load design genuinely rides differently. It needs the special gag cheekpieces, so set those up properly before you judge it. German silver (65% copper, 23% zinc, 12% nickel). Rinse everything after riding; see our leverage bits.
