French mouth Baucher bit
A Baucher asks a different question of the contact than a snaffle. The Jump'In French Mouth Baucher hangs from small arms above the mouthpiece, creating a fixed, stable feel with a light lever effect - and riders use it where they want a horse to soften into a rounder working posture without fighting for it.
How it works: because the cheek arms attach above the bit ring, rein pressure transmits partly through the cheekpieces, which in turn stabilises the mouthpiece and gives that classic Baucher steadiness. The light lever action encourages the horse to seek contact and settle into a better working attitude; the French mouth centre keeps the roof of the mouth entirely free of pressure throughout. German silver (65% copper, 23% zinc, 12% nickel).
Why we rate it: the Baucher is underused in regular training in Australia, and that's a shame - it suits the horse that hollows above the bit but doesn't warrant strength. There's no poll pressure drama, just a quiet upward suggestion. Jump'In notes the head-and-neck posture change is gentle; our experience agrees. It's a flatwork asset for wobbly contact. Rinse after use; compare with the rest of our snaffle bits.
