Big-ring bits and long-shanked models can leave a bridle running long, and the wrong answer is punching new holes in your cheek pieces. Jump'In's Short Cheek Pieces from the Week Collection are the right answer: shorter straps that take up the slack cleanly.

How it works: swap them in place of your standard cheek pieces when using a large ring bit or a bit with long bars, and the bridle returns to its correct geometry, with the bit sitting where it should in the mouth. They adapt to the Jump'In bridle buckles.

Why we rate it: this is the accessory most riders never knew they needed until a new bit made the old cheek pieces useless. High-quality English full-grain SEGWICK leather, stainless steel buckles and neat finishes mean the swap looks deliberate, and tobacco joins the usual burgundy, havana and black.

— Available in burgundy, havana, black and tobacco; one size. See our bridle accessories.

Product FAQs

How do I measure my horse for the Short Cheek Pieces?

You need four measurements: (1) headstall — from behind the ear, over the poll, to the other ear; (2) browband — around the forehead; (3) noseband — around the nose where it sits; (4) bit-to-bit — corner of mouth to corner of mouth over the poll. Most Jump'In bridles come in Cob, Full, and Warmblood sizes.

Is the Short Cheek Pieces a dressage or jumping bridle?

Dressage bridles typically have a flash noseband, larger browband, and longer cheekpieces for a refined look. Jumping bridles often have a drop or figure-8 noseband and are designed to stay secure over fences. Check the Short Cheek Pieces product description for its discipline design.

How do I care for my Jump'In bridle?

Wipe down after every ride with a damp cloth. Clean with leather soap weekly, then condition with leather oil or balm. Store hanging in a cool, dry place. Take apart and deep-clean monthly. Well-maintained Short Cheek Pieces leather bridles can last decades.
